To do a job well, you need the proper equipment.
We, at Visual Velocity Studios, have the right equipment and locations to get the pictures that you deserve. We shoot with high-end digital SLR cameras and lenses that deliver the epitome of imaging performance. Our equipment list is continually growing and being upgraded.
Cameras: Canon 1D Mark III camera. The Canon 1D series is Canon’s top-of-the-line professional camera body. These typically are sold without lenses so the photographer can customize the selection, depending on the demands of the job. This camera takes crystal-clear images in near total darkness without the need for flash units. It can capture motion pictures at a speed of 10 pictures per second and has a shutter speed fast enough to stop the spokes of a motorcycle as it flies past at more than 150 mph.
To be reliable, every photographer must have a backup camera or a camera to serve a different style of photography. For that purpose, we use a pair of highly capable Canon 50D and 5D bodies to get the shot. The reliability of the 1D-series and 5D cameras, however, means that the backups are seldom necessary.

Lenses: As stated above, to capture the best images, the best equipment is needed. To complement the camera body, we have numerous lenses that are also Canon’s top of the line. Although many lenses cover the same focal range, e.g., Canon’s 75-300mm vs. 70-200mm, and the 18-55mm vs. 17-40mm, professional lenses such as the 70-200 and 17-40 have much better internal characteristics and, therefore, deliver a superior image quality when compared to the consumer-grade lenses of similar range. The lenses we use are
Canon 17-40mm F4L
Canon 24-105mm F4L IS
Canon 70-200mm F2.8L
Canon 50mm F1.8
Canon 100-400mm F3.5-5.6 L
Canon 24-70 F2.8L
Canon 1.4x Teleconverter
Other Peripherals: Occasionally, our shooting takes us into scenarios that aren’t conducive to natural lighting. For those occasions, we employ numerous flash units that can be used for varying effects. We have 4 studio monolight flashes with shoot-through umbrellas for softer light and softboxes for soft light while controlling the light spread. Also, when called for, we use a ringflash that mounts all the way around the camera lens to allow for shadow-free portraits, which reduces the appearance of blemishes and wrinkles. This flash also allows us to capture some exceptional catch-lights in the eyes of the person. Last, we employ Canon’s top-of-the-line, hot-shoe mounted flash that attaches to the camera, the 580 EXII which can be shot either mounted to the camera or on wireless triggers.
Superior equipment is a mainstay at VVS. You, and we, can count on it.
